Although there seems to be nothing more conservative in architecture than the form of housing, the issue of affordable living space still remains unsolved. Looking from the perspective of contemporary Poland, with its rich pre- and postwar social housing heritage, the roundtable discussion aims at analyzing the current situation and possible future scenarios. How can the theories and experiences of pre- and postwar architectural avant-garde inform contemporary building practice? What impact has Poland’s socialist past on people’s living habits and openness to alternative forms of dwelling? How can the housing policies influence the shape of contemporary urban space?
